Four questions for the founders of Ryde Equestrian

Question:

How has your experience as a rider influenced your perspective when developing equipment for the sport?

Answer:

Riding is a team sport, even if you do it alone. You are never more than half of the equation. The other half is a 500-pound escape animal, trying to interpret every signal you give via body language and thoughts. The feeling when everything just works is impossible to describe and impossible to get enough of, whether you are a beginner or a master. It is such insights that have driven us to create equipment that can strengthen communication and increase both the bond and performance between us and the horses.

Question:

Can you share the process that took you from idea to finished product?

Answer:

We went all in on this product by putting our heart and soul into the creation of the stirrup.  Our designers have overseen every test ride. We’ve learned the names of every bone in the human foot and we’ve brought all sorts of experts to the riding arena. We have researched other action sports for inspiration. In short – we’ve done the heavy lifting so no one else has to.

Question:

How do you think Ryde Adjustable will affect equestrian sports?

Answer:
We often talk about progress as a slow and steady process. But sometimes evolution takes a step, creating a clear sense of “before” and “after”. We strongly believe that it is what’s happening right now. We started by trying to design a better stirrup, but it turned out that we changed the conditions of our sport forever.

Question:

What was the driving force when you developed Ryde Adjustable?

Answer:

Product development is about asking yourself the questions “why?” and “why not?”. Why are thousands of people seriously injured every year in our sport? Why is it sometimes difficult to achieve that feeling of perfect harmony with your horse? Why not try to do something about it? Why hasn’t anyone designed a stirrup that adjusts to you instead of you having to adjust to a position that can be both unnatural and uncomfortable? Why not create a stirrup that offers as good a grip when your ride ends as it did when it started? It is questions like these that we wanted to answer throughout the process.
